RETINA & VITREO-RETINAL SERVICES

Our centre runs RETINA & Vitreo-Retinal Clinic for the special purpose of preserving sight in sight-threatening conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, macular hole, retinal vascular occlusions, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment etc.

The patient receives specialized care provided by our Retina specialists.

  • 1. Viewing the macula with dilated pupils with 90D / 78D lens and slit-lamp
It is done for all patients with Retinal problem.
  • 2.Spectral OCT-SLO, FFA (Fundus Fluorescein Angiography)
It is done to find abnormal blood vessels beneath Macula as found in Wet ARMD. Our hospital has the region’s most advanced Spectral OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) with SLO (Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscope) and Digital Imaging - ImageNet FFA for best diagnostic capabilities.
  • 3. What is fundus angiography?

Flourescein Angiography is a very simple but specific diagnostic to know the detail health of retinal blood vessels.

In this test we inject a small quantity of flourescein intra-venous through a canula and take some pictures of the retina (the seeing portion of the eye) at a rapid sequence on a fundus camera.

Digital FFA or Fundus Fluorescein Angiography is done to find blocked , leaking or abnormal blood vessels beneath Macula as found in Diabetic Retinopathy, CRVO, CRVO, CRAO, Wet ARMD etc.

Abnormal blood vessels will show a leaking of the dye in the test.

Hence how much laser and where it has to be done is determined with the help of this test.

    What are the side effects?

This is a very safe test but adverse reactions are seen occasionally, the most common being nausea and vomiting and if you take a few deep breaths, it normally passes away. You would pass dark colored urine and skin may look pale for a day or two. The other adverse effects may be like rash etc.Serious side effects which can be life threatening though rare have been observed.

4. At the Retina clinic we record images on the advanced ImageNet system and maintain records of your eye condition for comparison on following visits. Macular conditions need regular follow-up since the condition can lead to irreversible loss of vision if poorly treated or neglected .

5. We have the latest technologies in the treatment of macular conditions such as photodynamic therapy PDT, Diode Laser, Transpupillary Thermo Therapy TTT and the world’s most advanced PASCAL Laser.

6. For wet AMD, treatments aimed at stopping abnormal blood vessel growth include drugs called AntiVEGF drugs Lucentis, Accentrix, Macugen and Avastin are given as intravitreal injection into Eye in patients with Wet AMD with good results by Vitreoretinal surgeon .

7. LOW VISION AIDS :

Many options are available at our hospital for patients who have advanced AMD damage or very poor vision due to various reasons. A Fresnel sheet magnifier is given free to patients who have both eyes intra-vitreal Lucentis / Accentrix injection along with complete ARMD tests at our hospital.
